Turn on your Creativity with all the
Best Craft Tutorials and Best DIY Projects
(We give you the best of our stuff AND everyone elses) so you can always find a project that will turn on your creativity!
CHRISTMAS CRAFT PROJECTS
Christmas is a pretty big deal around here! That’s when we get a TON of new visitors probably because I love Christmas and because every year I join over 50 other bloggers for a 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop. What’s that? It’s where a bunch of talented bloggers share their Christmas Craft Ideas so when you check out MY wreath tutorial, you also
get to check out 49 other wreath tutorials! Yep, it’s pretty great. PLUS, I love Christmas so I work hard all year to make sure you get some great Christmas Craft Projects from me. You can catch my act each year starting in early November on the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop, plus all my past ideas (and links to everyone elses) can be found on my Christmas Crafts Page.
MY MOST POPULAR CHRISTMAS PROJECT EVER!! It’s a printable game and it’s so popular it almost broke my site last year. It’s a family and party game designed to help you get creative and have fun doing it. Also, it’s free cuz that’s how I roll.
MY SECOND MOST POPULAR CHRISTMAS CRAFT. Y’all love my Buffalo Plaid Christmas Crafts the most. Here’s some that are really popular.
Scandinavian Buffalo Check Wood Ornaments.
Buffalo Check Wrapping Ideas (including free printable tag)
OTHER CHRISTMAS CRAFT PROJECTS YOU’VE LOVED
My North Pole Hot Cocoa Bar is really popular and remains my favorite to this day.
You guys are strangely obsessed with my Sweater Trees from my Sweater Weather Tablescape (I might need to do a post just on the trees).
Not surprising, you also loved my Farmhouse Red Truck ideas!
For some reason a big sewing blog seems to share my Farmhouse Christmas Aprons every year. They are amazing homemade gifts that will get you blush worthy praise if you’re one of my sewing friends. There’s also cute and free SVG files that I hid in that article for making fun Christmas towels or hot pads (shh! I usually make you stumble on them.)
Finally, you seemed to notice that the Cheeky Retro Wrapping Ideas were just so ME (how could you tell?)
AUTUMN CRAFTS
Fall is another popular season for crafts and my Fall and Halloween Crafts continue to be popular year after year. Although you guys always surprise me with what you love.
MY MOST POPULAR FALL CRAFT isn’t really a craft–it’s a printable. And although I absolutely love creating printables you seem to like my crafts more. So the huge popularity of my Native American Blessings Printable is a true honor.
MY MOST POPULAR HALLOWEEN CRAFT is BY FAR the Best Witches Hat Tutorial. I don’t take that lightly–this tutorial makes the cutest (or scariest) Witches Hat decorations ever! I make new hats almost every year because they’re easy, fun, and I can use up some of my craft stash (come on, I know I’m not the only one with a craft stash.) Also I went WAAY overboard on that tutorial and gave you links to free printables in case you want to design your hats around a theme and need some other cute stuff for your display–perfect for Practical Magic, Once Upon a Time, Harry Potter, and Hocus Pocus fans. (I get a little carried away sometimes!)
The Halloween Craft I make year after year is my Stay A Spell bottle and Napkin Wraps. They’re an easy Cricut project, but also easy to draw by hand and they’re always a hit at my Halloween Parties.
MY PERSONAL FAVORITE FALL CRAFT is my BIG porch sign. I love the way it turned out and it inspired me to make other big porch signs for other holidays. You will find that sign up every year in the fall because I still love it so much!
WHERE LOVE AND CREATIVITY MEET
If you spend any time on my blog whatsoever, you’ll know that I’m not the most talented DIY blogger out there but that’s okay. I feel it’s really my mission to lure you in here with fun projects so I can remind you day after day how amazingly creative you are by nature because God made you that way. I really want you to join my Crafting Is My Therapy Facebook Group (I know it’s a shameless plug but it’s totally free because I really do believe in this stuff). I want you to join because we can craft together every single week. I make good crafts and Pinterest fails–and so will you but the very process of making something that didn’t exist before you is MAGICAL! It opens up your spirit and makes you better in every area of your life. For me it was about putting perfectionism aside and just playing for play sake. For you it might be about taking a break from all the stuff you have to do for others and doing something purely for you.
So it was important for me to list a few projects that I LOVED MAKING. They might not be my most popular craft tutorials but they were magical for me personally.
Valentine’s for Your Girlfriends. I love, love, love my hubby but I wanted my girlfriends to know that they save me-like every day. So designing these cards was truly personal.
Gnomemade Cupcake Kit. My mother and mother-in-law are amazing examples of crafting and creativity to me. My mother-in-law, Betty, made me a bunch of plushy gnomes one year, just because, and so I made her a Gnomemade Cupcake Kit to thank her. It was so fun watching her get excited about our impromptu Gnome exchange!
I’m a faithful Christian girl and so I made these Christmas printables and this Advent Calendar just for me. I was happy to share them on the blog, but if I’m the only one who ever uses them that’s okay with me. Sometimes you have to make stuff that’s just for you.
ALL THE REMODEL STUFF
I have two loves that aren’t people (and I’ll never be able to list all the people I love because there’s too many). The first love is crafting for creativity sake. I’m always willing to jump in and try a new craft or technique. It’s helped me learn that I like sewing, paper crafts and my Cricut cutting machine, but I don’t like cross stitch or knitting. My second love is designing remodel projects for our home. Luckily, where Crafting Is My Therapy, Building is My Therapy could be my husband’s blog if he was ever interested in becoming a blogger (he shows up here a little bit thanks to my mad typing skills.) He jumps in to try almost anything when it comes to building and I have been so blessed by it. I wish all my favorite projects were here on the blog, but they aren’t. I do share them on my Instagram if you’d like to follow me (and him) there. My two most favorite projects to date are only on Instagram–my home office conversion and my Porch that we fondly call The Porch That Offer Up Built because we bought nearly everything for it on the deal site.
OUR MOST POPULAR DIY PROJECT is the Above Garage Door Storage. My theory is that all you crafty girls need seasonal storage and love that this storage is above the garage door–out of sight and out of mind until the holiday where you need it.
OUR MOST POPULAR DECORATING TUTORIAL is a toss up between How to Turn Your Bedroom Into a Suite and How to Make a Spa Bathroom Retreat. Both of these posts are hugely popular and proof that we all want our homes to be a peaceful retreat.
OUR MOST POPULAR DIY HOME DECOR TUTORIAL is How to Lengthen Curtains with Just One Seam. Yep, it was a huge revelation when I figured out how to lengthen my curtains without a lot of work. Nice for those of us with tall ceilings who can only find shorter curtains–or who want to buy our curtains at a deal store like Home Goods where I’ve never found curtains for 10 foot ceilings yet!
This is just a small sampling of the projects and tutorials that reasonated with you guys. I’m not one to always follow the crowd, and I bet you aren’t either so there’s probably more than a few projects you love that didn’t make the list. Wish I could put them all here, but you’ll have to wander the menus at the top of the blog to see what else is out there.
MY FAVORITE TUTORIALS THAT AREN’T MINE
There are so many talented bloggers out there that I have to check my insecurities at the door just to share a tutorial because I don’t feel worthy. Silly, really because I feel that each of these ladies would be friendly and welcoming if I met them in person. You’ll notice a lot of these tutorials are videos–and I’m working on that too. You’ll find my new YouTube channel here, and you can watch the replays of the LIVE Chat and Craft videos there too.
- Learning to sew mitered corners is so helpful if you want to make professional looking napkins, table runners or table cloths. The Crafty Gemini has a great tutorial for mitered corners.
- I love to make placemats! They elevate every meal and make wonderful gifts. Jordan Fabrics has my favorite sewn placemat tutorial.
- Printing on Fabric. What?! As a clipart addict there’s nothing I want more than to be able to make my own fabric using amazing clipart. Just Stitched shows you how to do just that AND it’s also a great “How to make a Zipper Pouch” tutorial. Two amazing skills in one.
- Placing vinyl on rounded surfaces (like cups or ornaments) is a skill every Cricut crafter struggles with. MJ Creative walks you through her process to place cut vinyl on a curved surface beautifully.
- How to add flourishes to your text in Cricut Design Space is a skill that I need from time to time, and usually forget how to do in between. Kayla’s Cricut Creations has a great tutorial on how to access those special flourish characters in your text.
- I love to make my own planner stickers so I can justify all the clipart I buy! Jenny Journals makes and sells her own stickers and her tutorial on how to make AND CUT your own stickers using the Cricut is great! She uses Procreate (available for Ipad only) to draw her stickers. I use PicMonkey to create my sticker sheet, but both methods work and she walks you through importing them into Cricut Design Space and setting up your machine to kiss cut stickers.
- Paper flower tutorials are every where because we all love paper flowers but I think Jennifer Maker is the paper flower expert for Cricut users. She has a great tutorial on all the flowers available in Cricut Design Space and her giant paper rose tutorial is amazing.
- When I’m stuck creatively, I watch CreationsCeeCee’s suggestions for play and I remember how easy it is to feel creative by sitting down and just playing–no plans, no expectations.
I’ll update this page periodically as I find great tutorials and as you guys make some of my posts popular by trying them.
