It’s Day 1 and we are sharing DIY Wreath Ideas!
I’m so glad that you’re here! I can’t believe that we’re starting another 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop. Where has the year gone? More importantly, what are you going to do to make the end of this year spectacular?
My suggestion? Reach and work for more JOY in your life. That was my inspiration for this year’s easy wreath project. If you’re like me, then you’re good at turning joy into this rare emotion like a pink diamond that you can only have once you’ve “arrived.” I’ll be truly happy once my book is done, or my house projects are complete. I’ll be happy when my kids finally appreciate me, or when I finally make big money.
I never “arrive.” That’s because life is messy. Beautiful, exciting, but also messy.
True joy, for me, comes when I’m tapping into the creativity within. It gets me jazzed up about my life in a way that nothing else can. If it’s been a while since you’ve rolled up your sleeves and worked on a creative project, then it’s high-time that you start.
Do you need a new wreath for Christmas? Probably not, but you do need to do more than just pin a bunch of pretty pictures onto your “someday” list. Even a simple craft project like this one can refresh the soul and wring out some of the dust that we accumulate in our day-to-day.
So grab a wreath, some burlap and a few scraps of material. In less than an hour you can make this beautiful wreath that will remind you all season to stop and enjoy it! Make more Merry and make less lists!

To make the JOY banner wreath, you’ll need the following items:
SUPPLIES
- ¼ yard burlap.
- ¼ yard Christmas fabric. I used a striped cotton with metallic accents. You could also use plaid flannel, or any other Christmas fabric.
- Cricut Adhesive Vinyl in Green Glitter.
- Fabric stabilizer. I used iron-on interfacing to stabilize the burlap and to keep it from fraying, and a double-sided iron-on adhesive (sometimes called Wonder-Under or Wonder-Bond) to adhere the striped fabric to the burlap.
- Twine or ribbon.
The FREE project sheet and pattern is available in our Freebies Library.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Cut 3 each of the large banner piece in burlap. Cut 3 each of the large banner out of the interfacing. Iron the interfacing onto the burlap pieces.
- Cut 3 each of the small banner piece from your Christmas fabric. Cut 3 each of the small banner piece from your double-sided iron-on adhesive. Iron the adhesive onto the back of the Christmas fabric. Make sure you don’t remove the paper backing or it will iron the pieces onto your ironing board!
- Remove the paper backing from your Christmas fabric and line it up on the burlap so that the burlap frames the Christmas fabric. Once satisfied with the placement, iron the Christmas Fabric pieces onto the burlap pieces.
- Use your Cricut to cut the word JOY out of your green glitter vinyl or you can cut the JOY by hand using the pattern included on the project sheet.
- Adhere the letters to your Christmas fabric pieces.
- Using a pair of scissors, cut small holes in the top right and left corners of the banner pieces. Thread twine or ribbon through the holes to hang the banner.
- Tie the banner to a wreath or garland.
That’s it. In less than an hour you’ll have a new wreath and you’ll have nourished your creative self.
