Where to Get Enough FREE SVG Cut Files to Keep You Crafting for Days!
Where to Download Enough FREE SVG Files to Keep You Crafting for Days!
My blog is a mess.
How is anyone going to find anything with this layout?
Why can’t I get a decent photo of this project for Instagram?
This is never going to work.
What am I trying to do?
Why would anyone want to do one of my projects or read one of my posts?
Everyone is more talented than me.
Also, why can’t I help my daughter to see how beautiful she is?
Is her hair ever going to grow back?
My life is a mess.
I’m a mess.
This is the daily conversation that goes on inside my head. Here I am, writing a design blog showcasing our big huge remodel projects and sharing my small DIY décor ideas—in short, I’m telling you how to make and fix stuff with this toxic conversation telling me that I’m not capable of fixing anything.
And yet…I’ve been at this blogging stuff for over a year and people stumble in everyday looking to download a piece of art or copy one of my projects or learn how to build something.
Somehow, with all those difficult conversations playing in my head I’ve pushed forward with the hard work of blogging. And, let me tell you, it’s work! I had no idea what went into blogging when I flitted around Pinterest, jumping from one idea to the next.
Planning, executing, and filming the project can take days or even weeks. Then you write about it, create a project sheet, optimize your images for your article and make sure that the links all work. Once that’s done, you’re on to promotion so that people can find your project. I’m just saying—it’s a lot of work.
Then there are the (thankfully) occasional emails I receive from someone who wasn’t happy with their free project sheet, accusing me of “scamming” them for their email address. Considering I average $12 of income per month from this blog, it can be pretty defeating to be accused of not giving enough value to my readers.
So why am I still here?
I believe from the bottom of my toes that creativity saves us from these defeating conversations we have in our heads. Doing something creative whether it’s baking cupcakes or practicing hand lettering or crafting opens us up. It lets the light back in.
I make my living from the most left-brain profession possible—accounting. There’s no such thing as creative accounting unless you want to wind up in jail. No thanks! When I’m in the accounting zone, I’m logic and function personified. But when I meet with a business owner who is worried about compliance and taxes and isn’t sure if this dream business is going to make any money, they don’t want straight numbers logic—they want to connect to a human being who will tell them the truth and help them hold on to their dream.
I can’t be that kind of connection for them if I’m never feeding the compassion inside of me with acts of pure joy. And my pure joy comes from crafting and home improvement projects. And other things, like my family but I’m my best self for them when I’ve given myself time to be creative.
That’s why I do this. That’s why I share projects here and that’s probably why everyone else you connect to through Pinterest is doing the same thing. We’re feeding a need in ourselves and hopefully helping you feed a need within you.
I’m still here a year later because I’m tired of apologizing for doing something hard for a reason other than “to make money.” I’m here to share some inspiration and projects with you, hoping that doing them will bring more joy and more play to your life.
Here’s some amazing designers who share FREE SVG cut files. It’s so incredibly generous of them to share their talents with us in this way. If you download a file from them, spread the love and please leave a comment on their blog thanking them.
By the way, if you prefer a PDF of this list so that you can keep it on your computer or in Evernote (my personal fave), it’s available in our freebie library.
SVG LOVE has a huge library of free cut files that grows every week. They love fun sayings perfect for t-shirts, totes, and wall art but have a lot of other designs too. The free versions are for personal use only, but you can buy a commercial license for a small fee. They also offer a monthly mystery free file that includes a commercial license.
SVG CUTTING FILES is home to really cute cutting files perfect for parties and for teachers.
SVG CUTS has a large library of sophisticated cut files that will seriously elevate your crafting. They have more than 40 pages of free designs to get you started. I love their trailer videos that showcase the movement built into the designs. Reasonably priced kits include 3-5 designs and there’s almost always a bonus kit as a free gift with a minimal purchase (under $13 usually) for when you’re ready to take your crafting up a notch.
CRAFT BUNDLES has a large library of free SVG cut files AND they give you the full commercial license with the freebies! I love their bundles that feature 150-300 cut files plus fonts and clipart for under $20 with that full commercial license. They also have $1 deals if you just need a handful of designs.
BURTON AVENUE carries beautifully designed cut files for personal use with the option to purchase a commercial license. I love how many seasonal designs she gives away for free. It’s totally worth joining her email list to get access to her library of resources too.
MY PAPER CRAFTING Melissa Beltran designs beautiful 3D cards with a video tutorial AND gives you the SVG cut file for free. She works on design teams for brands like Shimmerz Paints and The Robin’s Nest. If you purchase from her featured brands, you can usually use her name at checkout to get a discount or a bonus freebie.
MISS KATE CUTTABLES Kate offers a large selection of cute and simple free cut files perfect for a quick project. I love her seasonal cuts and if you want to purchase a file they’re unbelievably low-priced—usually $0.35-$0.50 per file.
POOFY CHEEKS I came across Kelsey’s blog by accident and I love her projects. She likes to take free SVG files from the sources I’ve just listed and create really amazing projects. Don’t worry, she gives you links to the files in her posts. She also posts seasonal round-up lists of great free cut files so you don’t have to look everywhere for them.
Update for 2019
This continues to be a very popular post on my blog and I’ve gotten tons of questions and comments. I just answered another question emailed to me today and thought the question and answer needed to be part of this update.
A fun reader saw the picture of my sign and asked why she couldn’t find the free cut file here. Here’s my answer:
“Thank you for loving my site! I, too, love the camper–the sign I made with it is still one of my favorite two years later. And while I try to update the post on the best places to get free SVG files so that it’s as current as possible, designers who create SVG’s often offer premium designs for free for only a limited time as a way to attract new people to their design shops. That was the case with the camper and trailer. Sparkal Designs offered it as a free file for a month in 2018–which is when I created that design. I’m so sorry that it’s not available for free anymore.”
This is the nature of free SVG designs. Some designers offer free cut files forever, others use free cut files to introduce new crafters to their catalog of designs. I don’t think one method is better than the other–it’s just how things work.
As of today, the truck and trailer cut file design is available for $8 here.
She also offers a bundle of 300 of her best selling designs (including the truck and trailer) for $19 here. I purchased this bundle after cutting the truck and trailer and I’m constantly using designs from it.
I haven’t been able to find the exact Pumpkin Patch sign file that I used in the picture, but Angie from Burton Avenue (a designer on my 2018 list) offers a really similar Pumpkin Patch design to the one I used on my sign for free. Remember that it might not be available for free later.
JENNIFER MAKER In 2019 I discovered Jennifer’s site and was hooked. She’s a Cricut expert and says that ALL the SVG cut files on her site are free. I’ve made her giant rose and it was a great success. The reason I added her, despite a smaller catalog is because she loves to experiment with the Cricut Maker and so none of her designs are the same! She has a lot of paper flowers, but also a shadow box, wedding cards, pop-up cards, and 3D luminaries. You know that I love to play and experiment and so her site is a new favorite for me.
THE HUNGRY JPEG Last year I didn’t include this site because it’s mostly fonts and clipart and they don’t offer free cut files very often (plus the free offerings expire). But they do have some freebies and they do have great deals on bundles of cut files that are usually well below $30. I try to sift through this huge site for you and every week I send my email subscribers links to the best stuff and the freebies so that you don’t miss out before they expire, so be sure to subscribe so you get that newsletter every week.
GINA CREATES I also discovered Gina this year when I was looking for bow cut files. She has an entire collection of free cut files that are elegant, intricut and beautiful. If you like designs that are more complex, she’s your girl.
MY FREE CRICUT FILES PINTEREST BOARD I realize this isn’t a website and that some files free today and gone tomorrow, but I do try to fill this particular board with pins for free SVG cut files and so it’s worth checking out.
One thing I love about the blogging community is that there are new blogs being born everyday with amazing ideas and freebies. This is a VERY short list of what’s available. If you’re an SVG designer or you know a website that should be on this list, please leave me the info in the comments! I will continue to add to this list.
The best way to reach me is by following me on Instagram and sending me messages there.
If you haven’t already subscribed to my newsletter and the freebie library, you really should! I work hard to put tons of projects and freebies at your fingertips.
Another great way to support my blog is to purchase things you already want through the links in this post. I get a little commission at no cost to you.
