Stylish Pool Storage that Eliminates Odor Problems
Upcycle Lockers for Amazing Odor-Free Pool Storage
Pool storage is tricky. You need something durable that can withstand the elements. You also need something that’s not so airtight that you grow your own mold farm. I also wanted something that could hold a variety of items from goggles and sunscreen to towels and wet swimsuits.
It was my son that made me consider lockers for pool storage. He came home from his Freshman year of High School with his gym clothes and proudly proclaimed that he hadn’t brought his PE clothes home to be washed all semester, and they “don’t smell that bad.” After getting over the “grossness” of his story, I realized that lockers are designed to release moisture and odor. Perfect for wet towels and pool storage.
These lockers came from a Middle School remodel. They’ve been used effectively for shoe storage in the past, but now they were being upcycled as a pool storage unit. If you want something similar, keep an eye out on Craigslist—they’re often sold there. If you hear about a school remodel project, call the general contractor and let them know you’re interested in used lockers—you can often pick them up that way too.
I wanted to give the locker pool storage a little more style since they’re highly visible on the back porch. But I didn’t think they needed repainting. So, I turned to my Cricut Explore Air die cut machine for a solution. I found some great images of intricate flowers and a gecko that reflects the desert landscape here in Arizona, that I resized to fit the space.
I love using the Cricut Explore Air for home décor projects like the pool storage. It’s a great tool to add inexpensive stylish elements and it allows me to personalize my home.
What solutions have you found for pool storage? I’d love to hear from you.
