Easy DIY Cricut Project – Make a Sweater Weather Sign
This time of year, living in Arizona, the only sweaters we’re seeing are in home decor. But even I crave sweater weather in October, so I knew it was time to create my own kind of sweater weather but as a framed sign.
This is a super simple Cricut vinyl project. Of course, if you watch any of my LIVE crafting videos, you know that I’m not happy unless a project has tons of layers and visual interest so I just keep adding things until it “pops”–that’s a technical crafting word that means “makes you squeal in delight because it’s just so awesome.” Which also means that this is a project you can make even if you don’t own a cutting machine–I’ll tell you how below.
First things first–here’s the list of supplies I used. If you don’t have everything here, then dig into your stash and get creative. It’s most important that you craft–supplies are secondary!
SUPPLIES (That I used–you can change this up!)
- 1- 8X10 frame with a mat–having the mat made it really easy to create the plaid border.
- 1-Square of felt–I used purple.
- 1- 12×12 sheet of scrapbook paper. I used a plaid print. You can use any paper that floats your boat!
- 1-Cricut Removable Vinyl Sheet.
- Embellishments. I used wooden shapes (an acorn and leaves), ribbon, and some really fluffy yarn. This would be so cute with buttons too! I wish I had thought of that when I was making it!
If you’re going to basically copy the one above, then check out the video where I put it together. I don’t show choosing the vinyl image for the sweater on Cricut Design Space but I promise there are tons of sweater images when you search and this one is available for free if you have the Cricut Access Membership.
If you don’t have a cutting machine… Don’t sweater it! Let’s face it, the sweater shape is really simple. You could cut it out of cute scrapbook paper and use alphabet stickers to write “sweater weather” across it. One note–even though you’re not using vinyl, I would glue the scrapbook paper sweater onto the glass because laying it on the felt could make it look wrinkled (unless that’s your thing). Plus, I really love layers when crafting. It’s more interesting for your eye.
